North Bridge House Prep School - A Philosophy
We are determined that North Bridge House should be a happy school, where teachers and pupils are expected to respect, help and care for each other. A friendly, family atmosphere is the foundation on which all else is built and so it follows that the school has a commitment to accept siblings and the children of past pupils, provided they are able to cope with the demands of the school.
At North Bridge House the person who is a little different from the crowd should be able to flourish and make a particular contribution to the community. The school should be demanding yet tolerant, challenging but at the same time supportive.
North Bridge House aims to help every individual to help fulfil as much of his or her academic potential as possible. This is achieved through skilled, dedicated and enthusiastic teaching.
The school believes in the education of the whole child. It is our job to discover and nurture abilities, wherever they may lie. Music, Art, Drama and Physical Education all play an important part in school life, both as part of the curriculum and as activities outside of the curriculum. Some children will succeed more in these areas than in the academic subjects - and the confidence gained will be carried back into the classroom.
Finally, we expect North Bridge House to be an unpretentious, civilised place, where good behaviour, good manners and smart appearance are paramount. We do not believe in too many trivial rules and regulations though some are necessary to ensure the smooth and safe running of the school. Although we are essentially a liberal school, there are clear and absolute boundaries (for instance about bullying, or drugs, or disruption in class) which must not be crossed under any circumstances. We want to encourage pupils of any faith or none to understand and believe in the values that really matter and to develop their own self discipline to stand up for what they know to be right.
