Learning Support

Learning Support

Although North Bridge House is a selective school, it has always tried to assist pupils held back by specific learning difficulties. It is our determination that all pupils who need support to enhance their learning will receive it. However, the School will only accept pupils for whom it can make appropriate provision. We are unlikely to be able to cater for pupils with a Statement of special educational need.

If a child is identified as needing additional help, for whatever reason, extra lessons may be given by the Learning Support teacher and are paid for by the parents. Where a need exists, parents will be invited to meet with the Learning Support teacher and the Head Teacher to discuss a suitable programme for the child. During this time, progress will be closely monitored both by the Learning support teacher and the child's class teacher.

Pupils are normally withdrawn for 1-4 lessons per week and parents are charged accordingly. If the pupil's progress is such that reduced support is appropriate, or no longer required, the lessons will be reduced or cease altogether; but close monitoring will continue.

Gifted Pupils

Commonly, it is only pupils with learning difficulties who are considered as having special educational needs. However, very able children may also be included in this category.

The School aims to aid their progress by setting targets that encourage these children to work to their full potential; promoting talent through the organisation of the curriculum, method of delivery and the attitudes of pupils and staff; and by helping pupils of special ability, in whatever field, to recognise and take a more active and independent role in developing their talent.

Physical Disabilities

The School will do its best to accommodate suitably qualified pupils who have physical disabilities.
