A new award for 2017

For 12 students in NBH Hampstead’s class of 2017, the hard work didn’t stop when they put down their pens at the end of their final GCSE exams in June. Instead, they swapped their homely senior school for a third world primary school and embarked on a highly rewarding community project in Malawi, helping to build classrooms and dormitories for the local children. The Malawi students were commended for their fundraising – which financed the trip and building materials – throughout their GCSEs, as well as their work in the developing country last Summer. Maya Nurmohamed was awarded a prize for her ‘Services to the People of Malawi‘.

Expedition leader, Oli France said:

“Maya devoted an extraordinary amount of time to helping local people. On our final evening, she even took the initiative to handout leftover pizza to local homeless people in the capital. During our time in Malawi, she fully immersed herself into the local culture, taking the time to learn parts of the local language so that she could better interact with our various hosts. She also showed tremendous industry during the community project, working as hard as everybody, including the local builders and always seeking to do more, stay longer, start earlier – to help others.”

Prestigious annual awards

To conclude the ceremony, three prestigious awards were presented at the end of the evening. Art Zabergja was commended for his Outstanding Achievements at North Bridge House, Jazzy Nicoletti received the Endeavour Award and Hannah Bentley was presented with the Spirit of North Bridge Award.

After receiving her award, Hannah said she was:

“I am deeply humbled and feel more than honoured to receive this award. The evening has made me, and I think many others, realise how much we all miss North Bridge House and what a special, unique school it is.  It has been so lovely to see all the teachers again. I’m so glad I came and will definitely be back again soon!”
