Girls’ Netball Tour with Official England Umpires
Senior Hampstead girls top weekend with 10-0 win
On Friday 10th March, P.E. teachers Mrs O’Keefe and Miss Donnelly took a group of Year 10 girls from NBH Senior School Hampstead to Shrewsbury for the weekend to participate in the U15 Netball Tour at Condover Hall. A prestigious Elizabethan residential activity centre for school children and sports teams, Condover Hall’s onsite activities range from a high aerial trek, abseiling, kayaking, archery, fencing, laser maze, tunnelling, zip wire and much more.
Izzy Taylor, Team Captain, Year 10
We played a whopping nine matches, won three of them and put up a very strong fight for the others. Our days were filled full with netball matches, activities such as high ropes and rock climbing. In the evenings there were silent discos, campfires, laser mazes – it was so much fun!
Mrs O’Keefe reports:
“The girls were very excited as we boarded the train at Euston. Upon arrival at Condover Hall the girls unpacked and settled into their dormitory. The girls wasted no time and took on the climbing wall, whilst encouraging each other to the top all supervised by experienced JCA climbing instructors.
That evening we were given our netball match times by the organisers and the girls had the next morning to explore the rest of the outward bound activities. They started with the ariel trek which they found exhilarating and then went onto the more calming archery.
On Saturday afternoon there was time for some final training and what a backdrop we had with the grounds of the Grade 1 listed Elizabethan Manor House. The girls worked hard and by the end of the session they were ready for the competition to begin!
The games were umpired by professional England Netball officials and there was a great buzz about the place. The teams were of a good standard with some of them coming from netball clubs not just schools. Our team captained by Izzy Taylor held their own against some stiff competition. We had a tough couple of first games which we lost 7-4 and 8-4 but the girls didn’t let their heads drop and they went on to win the next match 4–0.
Everyone was raring to go on Sunday, after some more netball drills and set plays. We started off playing the top two teams of the tournament and the girls showed great determination and character. Our defending was sensational, a special mention to Amber Harbi who was solid as Goal Defence.
We then had a close game against Dwight School in which we won 5-2. We finished with a 10–0 win against St Gerard’s School, a special mention to Ra’na Naini who created some great scoring opportunities as Wing Attack!
Myself and Miss Donnelly are so proud of the Year 10 girls, they were an absolute pleasure throughout the weekend.”
