Pre-Prep Parent Workshops
Teachers' top tips aid learning at home
In the same way that our Nursery School parents took to the workshops exploring the Early Years strategies teachers use in class, our Pre-Prep parents have relished the opportunity to join their children’s learning journeys in the new Year 1 and 2 workshops. The workshops enable parents to effectively support their child’s school studies, providing a great insight into classroom learning, and offer ways in which they can help to progress their child’s development at home.
The first of the workshops, which launched in March, was run by NBH Pre-Prep Maths Lead, Miss Mashford. Supported by fellow teachers, Mr Russell; Miss Jamieson; Mrs Mitchell and Miss Collis, Miss Mashford used the session to guide parents through the strategies we use in class to teach maths.
Parents were taught ways in which to help their children with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and problem solving – rotating around a sequence of activities led by our staff.
The maths workshop was a real success, with around 50 parents in attendance who all loved it. Building on this success, the following week saw Miss Jamieson, Literacy Lead at NBH Pre-Prep, run an English workshop, which was received equally as well by parents and guided them through a range of reading and comprehension activities.
More to come
We will to continue to run our parent workshops to help parents understand what your child is being taught in school, how they are being taught, and the methods you can use at home to best support your child’s learning. Keep an eye out for more Pre-Prep workshop dates next term and hear directly from our Maths and English Leaders.
