  • The student librarians and book club members are heading to the British Library on 18th March.
  • The end of term will see the commended pupils trip to the Bloomsbury Bowling lanes on 22nd March.

Ongoing: Highlights of the Year 2015-16

Last academic year, 2014-2015, there were over 30 trips and off site visits. Just in the opening Autumn term of the 2015-2016 academic year, Senior students enjoyed another 15 school trips. As we continue to grow this number every week, we look back at some of our students’ favourite adventures:

11th-14th March


GCSE History Trip, Berlin

40 Year 11 pupils ventured to Berlin to consolidate their knowledge and understanding of German history in preparation for their GCSE exams. Highlights included a historical walking tour, climbing the Alexanderplatz TV tower, visiting the Sachsenhausen concentration camp and exploring a range of museums. Students also enjoyed a tour of the 1936 Olympic Stadium, which is now home to Hertha Berlin football team.

4th March


London Zoo

Year 7 pupils took a trip to the wild side to examine a range of habitats, hear from professionals and collect primary data for their Geography studies. They learnt about the impacts of rainforest destruction, sustainable fishing, conservation of our ecosystems and sustainable living in order to protect the biodiversity within our ecosystems.

26th February


UKMT Regional Final, City of London School

Four of our skilled KS3 mathematicians were one of 30 teams to take part in the final of the UKMT team maths challenge, finishing – impressively – in sixth place.

9th February


DT Trip, V&A Museum

For fresh inspiration in the Spring term, Year 9 pupils will attended a Product Design workshop.



Commended Pupils Trip, Somerset House

In the final week of term, Head of House Mr Gorman took 30 commended pupils ice skating as a reward for their positive attitude to learning in the Autumn term.

GCSE Media Trip, British Board of Film Classification

Students visited the BBFC to further their understanding of the nature and context of film classification.

2nd December


British Museum

Miss Williams, teacher of Classics, took Year 9 pupils to gain a greater understanding of the cultures in Britain before the Roman occupation and to appreciate features of Pre-Roman art.



Frieze Art Fair

Year 10 Art students sourced material and inspiration for their GCSE studies, considering commerce in relation to art and the art market.

'An Inspector Calls' Theatre Trip

This opportunity allowed Year 10 English students to experience the dynamic staging and dramatic conflict of the play they were studying in class, and created an insight into the mind of the director

Hampstead and Highgate Literary Festival

Year 7 and 8 pupils celebrated their love of literature and discussed dystopian topics in young adult fiction.

GCSE Photography Trip, Camden Arts Centre

To widen cultural capital and to assist with their GCSE Unit 1: Portfolio, Assessment Objective 1, Year 11 Photography students engrossed themselves in the Arts Centre’s latest exhibition.

GCSE Classics Trip, Globe Theatre

GCSE students developed their understanding of the themes and structure of the epic play, The Odyssey.

15th October


GCSE English Trip, Macbeth Cinema Screening

In preparation for their exams, all Year 11 pupils went to see the latest Macbeth film to gain another perspective on how the play can be adapted.

12th-14th October


Hindleap Warren Outdoor Education Centre

All Year 7 pupils and the school’s pastoral team took part in the three day Hindleap Challenge in East Sussex. Activities included rock climbing, bush craft, archery, high ropes and muddy obstacle courses! Evening entertainment included a talent show and trivia contest.

11th-16th October


GCSE Spanish Trip, Valencia

Year 11 students immersed themselves in Spanish culture, practicing and improving their language skills whilst staying with host families. Aside from their lessons with native speakers at the ‘Taronja Language School’, students explored the city centre’s historic buildings and museums. They thoroughly enjoyed a graffiti workshop and the dolphin show at Europe’s largest aquarium, where they learnt about the dangers to the species (in Spanish). Other highlights included lunch and football on the sunny beach and a cultural Paella night!

5th October / 19th November


Design and Technology Trip, V&A Museum

Year 8 & 9 pupils thoroughly enjoyed workshops in ceramics and textiles, where they developed an understanding of how to create a fashion collection and were able to create their own designs based on artifacts in the V&A. They also gained hands-on experience of 3D modelling and had the opportunity to work with resident artists at the museum.

17th-18th September


WW1 Battlefields and Memorial Sights, Belgium

Year 10 students learnt about the lives of soldiers in the WW1 trenches and about the impact of the war on British society. At the Menin Gate in Ypres, they attended a Last Post Ceremony and laid a wreath on behalf of all staff and students at NBH.
