Extra Curricular Activities

An orchestra, multiple choirs and several brass bands ensure our musical talent is nurtured and showcased throughout the school. As well as the various groups available to join, pupils benefit from one-to-one music lessons with our expert peripatetic teachers in string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. These include: Cello, Clarinet, Flute, French Horn, Guitar, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet and Violin. Double-bass, Oboe, Tuba and Viola are also played in the school orchestra.

Our environmental and sustainability council is hugely popular with NBH Prep School pupils, who follow the Earthshot Prize programme set up by Prince William and The Royal Foundation. Pupils champion positive action in the environmental space at school and beyond, harnessing their love and respect for nature and driving initiatives to make our staff and student body as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our student newspaper club take an editorial approach to finding their True North, producing their very own digital magazine. ‘News Bridge House’ reports on everything from politics to school life and pupils enjoy collating jokes, games and riddles as well as creative pieces and teacher interviews.

Fencing and Karate are particularly popular martial arts here at North Bridge House, providing pupils with a complete body and mind workout. Their ancient origins instil traditional values and leadership qualities, including self-discipline, good manners, sportsmanship and respect. With a strong focus on footwork and tactics, both Fencing and Karate develop students’ physical and mental agility, improving all-round endurance.

Mandarin is taught as a curricular subject for Years 6-8 and so the idea of Mandarin club is to offer children in Years 3-5 the chance to learn the language too. Chinese culture is taught through a range of different activities, and pupils learn how to speak Mandarin within topics that relate to daily life. This is a great opportunity for children to become familiar with Mandarin ahead of studying it on the curriculum, as well as to experience and enjoy learning a new language.

Mother Nature Science club helps children to better understand the world around them. With new topics every term, we explore a wide variety of scientific concepts across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which are linked to the National Curriculum and supplement primary STEM learning. During each fun and educational weekly one hour session, children observe an exciting demonstration, enquire about the science behind it and then engage in hands-on activity to confirm their findings.
